Dynamic transport axis

The infrastructure conditions are outstanding and underpin the potential in the Border Triangle and its integration into the European economic area. As the border region is an interface between domestic and foreign markets, transport links determine the region’s market potential. The Border Triangle is easy to reach not only by road, but also through its ports in Flensburg and Aabenraa that serve as hubs. These guarantee optimal access to sea transport via the Baltic Sea. The connection to air transport is secured by the airport in Flensburg for individual flights and by the Sønderborg airport with direct daily scheduled flights to Copenhagen.

In rail transport, the Border Triangle is a stopping point on the ICE Århus–Hamburg–Berlin line and on the EuroCity line from the Danish city Århus to the cosmopolitan city of Hamburg. In addition, eight trains run from Flensburg to Copenhagen every day. With the intermodal transport facility in Padborg in the municipality of Aabenraa, the Border Triangle has a bimodal cargo handling centre linking road and rail, which gives it a supraregional significance.
